YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU
We cannot hide from God. He has an all seeing eye and He knows exactly what we have done, what we are doing, and He even knows what we are planning to do. I remember a song with the lyrics, “you can run but you can’t hide”. How true that is. I have also heard the expression, “what is done in the dark will come out in the light”. Sooner or later, our sin will be revealed. Sometimes they are revealed by our own guilt that keeps on gnawing away at us. Sometimes what we thought was done in secret, is made known by someone we least expected. Nevertheless, regardless of who knows or does not know rest assured God knows. There is a verse in the Numbers 32:23 that speaks clearly, that our sin will find us. The verse reads in this manner:
“But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the Lord, and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
Someone has said this is one of the great texts of the Bible and one we need to hear more and not less in our churches. Here in this book we find how Moses, the great leader of the people, had spoken to the people about their commitment to God. He tells them that if they do not follow the Lord in the manner He has instructed them they can be sure their sin will find them out. They were given a promise from God that they shall receive blessings, but they also must be willing to honor God and keep His commandments. They could not plead ignorant nor could they hide from God. What a wonderful insight we have from this one passage of scripture. If we are honest, many of us have sought to hide our sins from God and from one another. In spite of the fact that God knows exactly what we have done he still loves us unconditionally. That is reason to shout today, for no one knows us, the way God knows us and no one loves us the way God loves us.
