YEARNING FOR THE LORD

There are times in our lives when we yearn just to get close to God. I do not know if you ever felt that way, but at times I really need to be close to God. This yearning within me is trying to develop a deeper walk with God. I find myself overwhelmed at times with trials and troubles of life, and I need to be reassured that God is with me. If you have never felt that way, there may come a time in your life where you will feel the need to draw close to God. Life’s problems and burdens can wear us down. The uncertainty of life causes us to seek the Lord in ways we have never done before. There is truth in the song that we sing: “There’s something about the name Jesus.”  In Psalm 63:1, we find these words:

“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”

The psalmist has a deep yearning for the Lord. His whole body aches longing for the Lord. He has felt the presence of the Lord in the sanctuary and realizes how much he needs God. His unfailing love is better than life itself. He continues, saying, “I will praise you as long as I live.” The psalmist has expressed his deepest praise to God because he knows full well that the Lord is his helper, his healer, and his keeper. When you get a chance, read this entire psalm. Prayerfully, as we all yearn for the Lord, we will also give Him praise!
