Every time we gather for worship, there is a need to worship God with reverence. We serve a Holy and Righteous God. Whether we are in corporate or private worship, we must always be mindful that we are in the presence of a Holy God. Consequently, our worship should be authentic, sincere and true. I have shared the story on more than one occasion that I remember a young gifted preacher who spoke to our youth about worship. She said to them simply, “Don’t play with worship.” Always approach God with respect and honor. Today’s devotion, Hebrews 12:28 speaks to this:

“Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.”

In this text, the writer calls the people to be grateful and thankful by worshiping God with reverence, and awe. There can be no genuine worship to God without these. Not only is reverence required, it must be united with confidence in God. God’s love is deep and filled with tender mercies. The writer writes that God is a consuming fire. The glory of God is a flame that can never be extinguished. It is my fervent prayer that when you approach God, you do it with a heart full of gratitude and love. Worship is what you do to honor God
