WORDS THAT GIVE HOPE
I have written on many occasions in these devotions about the importance of words. Words can give hope, but they can also create pain. The words that we speak are just as important as how we say them. Words should always be wise, in other words, the words we speak are to be positive not negative, helpful not hurtful. When we speak frankly, the words should provide a sense of encouragement and strength.
Each of us should think before we speak. I would go even further and suggest that we should pray before we speak. We should ask God to give us the right words to say that will help rather than hinder the situation. In Proverbs 10:11, we find these words:
“The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.”
The author says that words of the godly are like that of a living fountain, forever flowing with peace and love. On the other hand, he says words of the wicked can cause pain, stirred up with quarrels and all sorts of confusion. Wise words can empower people with understanding. Words can provide strength and healing. Words of the godly can serve as a source of encouragement to many. When you get a chance, read this entire chapter. Let us all make sure to use the words we choose, wisely.
