As I pondered over this devotion, I was puzzled that I only used one word – wisdom. I was trying my best to find something to add to this one word, but I believe with all my heart that the word wisdom stands alone. In all of our getting, we should all strive for the gift of wisdom. I could argue strongly that we could have all the worldly knowledge and still not be wise. Wisdom is a gift from God and teaches us to have reverence and respect for God. It assures us that God is with us, no matter the trials or tribulations we face. Wisdom is a jewel that you cannot buy, sell or bargain for. God grants to us wisdom. Psalm 33:18 is our scripture reference today.

“But the Lord watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love.”

The psalmist is confident as he speaks wise words, for he has discovered the power of God for himself. Throughout this chapter, he praises God knowing that He rescues His people from death and destruction. His wisdom has caused him to put his hope in the Lord who is our help and our shield. The psalmist has gained strength through God’s empowerment for he is aware of God’s majestic power. He does not fear for the future because his hope is in the Lord. With confidence, he ends the psalm by saying, “Our hope is in the Lord alone.” Wow! Let me conclude by repeating the last word, good for our daily living. “Our hope is in the Lord alone.”
