What Have You Prepared For?
We plan for the many events in our lives such as marriage, careers, and retirement to name a few. But very seldom do we hear of the plans we have for eternal life. We might make funeral arrangements, and we might have a will in place, but what about eternal life? How much time have we spent preparing for life after death? In Luke 12:20, we find these words:
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’”
Luke records an example of a folly of life where someone was devoted to accumulating material riches. It tells how the rich man planted crops and because they were too large for his barn he made plans to build a bigger barn where he would store more grain and goods. We see the words that God spoke to him in verse 20. There is a warning here; hopefully, we pay attention to the warning, for we live in a materialistic society. The intent of this scripture is to warn us not to focus on worldly possessions. The real value of life is found in Christ Jesus alone. Please don’t misunderstand me —there is nothing wrong with having material things, but they are only temporary. We need more than just temporary things in our lives. Prayerfully, we are also preparing for our eternal life!
