WHAT DO YOU TREASURE?

Today’s devotion raises a very important question, “What do you treasure?” Another way to say it is, “What things do you value?” Prayerfully, we are all able to answer that question by saying that we value God! He is far greater than silver, gold, diamonds, or any other prized possession that we may have. We should love Him with all our hearts, souls, and minds. He has given us the greatest gift – the gift of salvation – and we are SWAG! (Someone Who Adores God). That is who we are. God knows it and others do, too! In Luke 12:34, we find these words:

“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

In this deep and moving passage of scripture, Jesus is teaching His disciples about money  and possessions. He told them not to worry about everyday life, whether they have enough food to eat or enough clothing to wear.  He told them to look at the ravens because they do not plan to harvest or store food in barns, but God feeds them, and also told them that they were far more valuable to Him than any bird. He told them not to worry over little things, but to put their trust in the Lord God and He would give them everything they needed.  Then, the Master gave them a radical lesson saying, “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.”   When you get a chance, read this entire chapter. Prayerfully, we will all be able to answer today’s question by saying that we treasure loving God and serving His people.
