WE MUST LIVE BY A HIGHER STANDARD
We, as the people of God, must live by a higher standard. We cannot do everything the
world does and then expect to be called a child of God. God’s standards of living must
always be kept higher. I remember the words my grandmother used to say. She would
say, “When you leave this house, don’t disgrace me. Know who you are. Carry yourself
in a way that brings honor to your home.” Those words still ring true. When we leave
the sanctuary on Sunday morning, make sure that your actions are pleasing to God.
In other words, live by a higher standard. In 2 Timothy 2:19, we find these words:
“But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with the inscription: “The LORD knows those who are his, and “All who belong to the LORD must turn away from evil.”
In this chapter, the servant of the Lord is speaking to Timothy about what it takes to be
a good soldier in the Army of the Lord. Timothy wanted to be an approved servant, so
he turned away from evil, living a life of a higher standard, one that honored God with
truth. We need to have a firm foundation in the Lord, turning our hearts away from
everything that is evil. Prayerfully we will all seek to live in a way that honors God by
living a life of higher standards every day.
