WE FALL SHORT
Today’s devotion is entitled “We Fall Short”. Notice it does not say I fall short or they fall short, but we fall short. “We” includes me and everyone reading this devotion. In fact, it also includes those who do not read this devotion, as well as those in various congregations. There are those who have accepted Christ who also still miss the mark. It is tragic that so many people never talk in this manner about the “we”; they are always pointing their fingers at someone else. When we come to recognize and realize the “we” in falling short, we would not be so quick to become judgmental or self-righteous about others as we recall Romans 3:23.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Here Paul gives a universal need. He says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Paul is committed to make this point known; understanding we are justified by His grace as a gift. While we all fall, we have all been extended the marvelous grace of God. We cannot argue with Paul when he says “all”, nor can we ignore the marvelous gift we have received though we all fall short. A free gift is bestowed upon us. All glory belongs to God. In the following verses, you see the gift through redemption, which is in Christ Jesus. The gift reminds us it is not of our own doing, but rather by the free and full hand of God.. Isn’t it amazing that although we all fall short we all receive grace? I can find nothing else to say than “Wow, that’s amazing.”
