We are not our own. Those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior are no longer our own for we have been bought with a price. Jesus’s blood has set us free. We have a new name and a new way of living. No longer do we live for ourselves, but for Him. All that we have comes from Him. All we will ever be is because of Him. We can no longer boast of our own accomplishments, nor can we act as if we are on our own. We cannot do everything we want to do and go every place we want to go and say everything we want to say. We must always acknowledge Him as our Heavenly Father. I Corinthians 6:19 is the scriptural text today.

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,”

Paul speaks to the people of Corinth and reminds them that they are not their own and have been bought with a price of Jesus’ precious blood. He recognizes that some of them may not be aware of what has taken place in their lives. He refers to them as the temple in which God’s Spirit dwells. They ought to live holy and righteous lives. Paul wants their bodies and minds to be a place where God dwells so that they cannot mistreat or abuse the gifts God has given to them. Read this entire chapter. It costs a great deal for the Lord to own us, to free us and to love us. Never forget the price that was paid for our salvation. Only the blood of Jesus can wash away our sins and make us whole again.
