We All Have Sinned

I visited the Graterford Prison and I will never forget that experience. There were many young men incarcerated there. As I thought about that, I was moved to take a moment to give God thanks, for I recognized that but for the grace of God, there go I. Consequently, I have learned not to judge anyone, because I am completely aware of my own sins and shortcomings. Romans 3:23 reminds us that “…All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”  How easy it is for us to forget that we are all sinners saved by grace. In Romans 8:23, we find these words:

“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.”

Paul is conscious of his own weakness and his own sinful flesh, but he views the Spirit as a helper. He talks about how the Spirit helps us with our infirmities. Praise God today that we are sons and daughters of God. In spite of our sinfulness, God loves us unconditionally. It is my prayer that we never lose sight of the fact that we have been bought with a price. Our sins have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ. May we have empathy for others as Christ has empathy for us.
