WATCH OUT FOR OTHER GODS
We need to be careful that we do not allow ourselves to become worshipers of other gods. Oh, we do not have gods of stone and artifacts. However, many gods of wealth, fame, idols, etc. claim our attention. There is only one true God. Sometimes people make other people their gods including, entertainers, sports figures or themselves. We need to be careful not to fall into that trap. This scripture lesson today is in Exodus 20:3.
“You must not have any other god but Me.”
In this portion of scripture, Israel must be holy before God. Yahweh is to be the only God Israel recognizes and worships. Yahweh has given the people freedom and now asks for righteousness and worship. Many people who worshiped other gods surrounded Israel. God tells them not to follow this practice and to worship Him only. As He has blessed them, they must put Him first and no other god shall come before Him. In this chapter, the Commandments are given. I pray that we have placed God as our Supreme God in our lives. Nothing or no one comes before Him. We thank the Giver of the gift. Our children are gifts from God, but they are not God. We do not love them less: we love them more because God gave them to us. But our love is always at the highest for our God, who created the heavens and the earth.
