Walking Worthy

As people of God, we are called to walk worthy of our calling (Ephesians 4:1). Our walk must be in keeping with our witness. We cannot dishonor God by living in such a way that it is hard for people to determine if we are saved. Paul was deeply committed to living a godly life. On more than one occasion, he spoke from the depths of his heart about our walk with the Lord. In Philippians 1:27, we find these words:

“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.”

The disciples’ behavior should be worthy of Christ, whether Paul comes or not. He wants them to know that they must be consistent about the manner in which they live. He does not want them to lose touch with their faith. He tells them to stand fast in one spirit and mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel. He wants them to give glory to the gospel that they have heard. It is my fervent prayer today that we, as a people of God, will understand our God has an all-seeing eye. It is not enough to walk worthy only when we are in the company of other believers; but, wherever we are, we must be mindful that we are always the children of God. Prayerfully, every day, we walk worthy as a child of God.
