Walking in the Newness of Life

Reverend Clifton Davis, son of Reverend Toussaint L. Davis, the 5th pastor of Bethlehem, preached to celebrate our 125th church anniversary. One of the points he raised in his sermon was our need to be so conscious about God that we are compelled to live for Him in every aspect of our lives. He indicated that we are to be mindful that we are always in the presence of God. In Romans 6:4, we find these words:

“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.”

Paul is clear that this new life in Christ has made a radical change in our lives. This newness of life simply means new life — life in the fullness of God that has come by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sin has no place in the new life. The intimacy of our union with Christ provides us the power to live holy lives. Old things are passed away; all things are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Thank God for this new life! May we walk in it, giving glory and honor to God.
