Victory Versus Defeat
I thought of “Victory over defeat” as a title. That is true! God does give us victory over defeat. However, there is a vast difference between victory and defeat. Victory says we are winners; defeat describes us as losers. We are not victims, but rather, we are victorious! Someone said, “If you think you are beaten, you are.” God’s Word says that we are more than conquerors, and we can live victorious lives. Praise God today that we have the victory! In Deuteronomy 28:7, we find these words:
“The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven!”
We are assured that the Lord will make our enemies our footstools. Moses, the author of Deuteronomy, declared the blessings of God for the people of God, but there are conditions that the Israelites must be willing to follow if they are to inherit the blessings of the Lord. In the first verse he says, “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all His commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.” If they do this, then he tells them in verse 6 that they will be blessed. Those who honor God will reap His blessings. To live victorious lives, we must follow the Lord’s statutes and keep His commandments. In doing this, we are assured that “no weapon formed against us will prosper” (Isaiah 54:17). I pray today, that we are all able to say, “I’m on the Lord’s side and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I will not be overcome by defeat, but I will have victory.”
