USE WISE WORDS

It is important that God’s people use words filled with wisdom. Too often, the words that come out of our mouths are hurtful. We need to think before we speak, in fact I might add, we need to pray before we speak. Countless families have been torn apart, marriages destroyed, and friendships marred because of words that were unkind and painful, words that were not chosen wisely. We cannot say everything we think. I have said more than once that when I was growing up, I would hear words like “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is so far from the truth! Words absolutely do hurt and sometimes can hurt worse than physical pain. The Bible, God’s holy Word, says a lot about words.
Our Scripture reference today, Ecclesiastics 10:12, speaks about the need to use wise words:

“Wise words bring approval, but fools are destroyed by their own words.”

The writer makes clear that wise words are important. Not only do they bring the approval of those who hear them, but also God blesses those who use them. The writer goes on to say, the fools (those who lack wisdom) are destroyed by their own words. Throughout this chapter, he speaks clearly about the wise and the foolish. When you get a chance, read this entire chapter, and then make sure that whenever you speak, your words are wise. This way, God will get the glory and you will be a blessing to others.
