Try Again
Most of us have heard the saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Those words are so true. How tragic it is that many people stop trying after their first unsuccessful attempt. We must have the perseverance and faith to keep on trying when doing the Lord’s work. I look back over my life and see the many times I have failed. Nevertheless, I thank God that I was determined to keep on trying. God’s Word is clear about the need to try again. In Luke 5:5, we find these words:
“’Master,’ Simon replied, ’we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.’”
Luke shares this story of how the fishermen toiled all night to catch fish but caught nothing. Christ said to Simon in verse 4, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” We see Simon’s reply in verse 5. Look at what happens when Simon tries again! There were so many fish that his boat began to fall apart! Although we may have trials and struggles, we cannot quit. Whatever we stand in need of, God will grant. We have to be patient and remember Ecclesiastes 9:11, “The race is not given to the swift, but to those who endure to the end.” Try again!
