TRUSTING GOD FIRST
It is so important that we know in whom we trust. Some trust in material things, some trust in wealth, some trust in other people and some trust in God. God wants us to trust our brothers and sisters, but that trust should be secondary to our trust in Him. We should never put anyone or anything ahead of God. We have to be careful, for the flesh will take over and before we know it, we have put our trust in everything but God. The Word says, in Proverbs 3:6, “Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” God wants us to trust Him completely. In Jeremiah 17:5, we find these words:
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.’”
This passage of scripture speaks of the fate of those who put their trust in man, as well as the fate of those who put their trust in God. Verse 6 says that those who put their trust in man are, “… like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future…” However, verse 7 says, “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” Read this chapter when you get a chance. Then take a moment and examine yourself. Whom do you really trust? Is God at the top of your list? Prayerfully, you will all be able to say with me, without any doubt, the words of the songwriter, “I trust in God..”
