On this Valentine’s Day, as we express our love, I pray that your love is true. There is no greater love than God’s love. Prayerfully your expression of love is wrapped up in God’s love. The love that He expresses towards us is unconditional. The cards that you are giving or receiving are an expression of your faithful love. I would argue strongly that you really can’t have a true love outside of God. God gives us true love; we will never be able to love others the way He loves us. We cannot love in the flesh the way that He loves us. Take a moment today and thank God for his powerful lasting love.
In our Scripture lesson, Hosea 6:6, we find these words:
“I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.”
Here in this moving passage of Scripture is a call to repentance. The chapter begins with conduct to return to the Lord. The Lord tells the people that it is not sacrifices of burnt offerings that He desires but for them to show true love. The people no longer express genuine love to the Lord. He wants to restore them but they have to first return to Him. When you get a chance read this entire chapter. Prayerfully you are offering true love to God as well as to love to others so that you can say with no reservation, “I love the Lord”.
