THOSE IN NEED

As believers, we are called to help one another. We cannot claim to be God’s children then turn our hearts away from those in need. He never turns His back on us; therefore, we cannot turn our back on others. We must always be there to help, encourage, pray for, or share resources with those who are less fortunate. Were it not for the grace of God it could be any one of us, standing in need. When was the last time that you were aware of someone who was cold, hungry, living on the street, and/or needing a helping hand? What did you do to help? There are times when we may see someone lying on the street. However, for a variety of reasons, including the rise in crime involving this population today, we pass them by. As believers, we are held to a higher standard for our actions. As the song says, “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” In 1 John 3:17, we find these words:

“If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need and shows no compassion — how can God’s love be in that person?”

The writer indicates that if God has blessed us and we see somebody in need, then we need to show compassion. The writer goes on to say that we should
love each other and show this truth by our actions. Be generous with the gifts that you were given, because all that we have came from God. I pray today that we will all learn to honor God by helping those in need.
