THIS IS THE LORD’S DAY
Every day God allows us to wake up is a day to be mindful that this is His day. The Lord has granted us a brand new day. For that, we ought to give Him thanks. Sufficient is this day and that we receive God’s mercy. Morning-by-morning new mercies are for us to see. We are called to live each day to its fullest. Yesterday, has passed and tomorrow is not promised. Whatever happens to us today is the Lord’s Day and it is the Lord’s doing. We can rest on His promises. I begin each day with our Church Without Walls with these words found in Psalm 118:24:
“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Throughout this psalm, the psalmist gives God praise. He begins this psalm with this, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” The psalmist declares the goodness of the Lord. He is aware that the Lord is giving His people a new day. They are to use this day for His glory. He assures them that God is their refuge and strength. The chief cornerstone is the foundation on which they ought to depend. It is time for them to rejoice and be grateful, to acknowledge Him and to bless His holy name. He prays on behalf of the people that they might give thanks, knowing that their lives are in God’s hands. They need not complain or fear, but to rejoice every day for this is the Lord’s doing. As God’s people, may we use this and every day to acknowledge the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
