We live in a society of constant and rapid change. Many of us even find it challenging to keep up with the lightning-fast advances in technology. As soon as we think we have it figured out, something else is added. We have even watched our neighborhoods and congregations change. In many ways change is good, so we should not fear change. What is important is that the word of God never changes, it stands forever. That’s one thing we can count on. In Isaiah 40:8, we find these words:

“The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Isaiah expresses his view of God’s Word. It is not like the changing of the seasons but rather it is permanent; it remains the same. We change every day; our bodies, our minds, and even our hearts. I might add, nothing  in this world is constant except  the Word of God;  it is the one thing that remains the same. We can rest on the promise found in Hebrews 13:5, that God will “never leave (us) nor forsake (us).” This should give us hope today. Regardless of what is going on in our lives, we can depend on the Word of God.  As I said earlier in this devotion, change is something we all experience. Some shifts have been good and some not so much, but praise God today that the Word of God stands forever!
