The Spirit Of Wisdom
The book of Proverbs is so rich because God gives us wisdom and insight to our lives throughout this entire book. There is a vast difference between wisdom and knowledge. You can acquire knowledge and still lack wisdom. Wisdom gives you discernment, peace, and fulfillment. When you receive wisdom, you are blessed. In Isaiah 11:2, we find these words:
“And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.”
The writer speaks of the Spirit of the Lord as the source of divine wisdom. The Spirit empowers wisdom and understanding, bearing a reverence towards God. Wisdom is an attribute of a godly leader. He who would rule over others, must first be ruled by the power of God. The Spirit that gives counsel strengthens our character. No one should seek to lead God’s people without the Spirit of Wisdom. It doesn’t matter how many degrees we have, how articulate we are, or how versed we are in literature. Unless the Spirit breathes afresh upon us, we have no real power. As possible, we should definitely pursue higher education and learning. But, we should never forget to strive for God’s wisdom in becoming a committed servant. Remain humble and acknowledge that all we have is because of God. In all that we do, we must remember to always strive for the spirit of wisdom.
