Some time ago, I remember preaching a sermon series about strongholds. We all have strongholds in our lives that strangle us: greed, lust, addiction, worry, pride, arrogance, and fleshly biases. Nevertheless, God has given us the power to demolish these strongholds. Take a moment and be honest with yourself about strongholds in your life that you want God to demolish. Do not be in denial, for no matter how strong we are, we all have something that grips us and seeks to take away our joy. II Corinthians 10:4 is our scriptural reference today.

“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.”

Paul speaks about the weapons of our warfare. He does not use worldly weapons or means which appeal to human passion. The weapon Paul uses is the power of God, which can destroy strongholds. Paul is aware that he cannot use carnal or worldly weapons. He has discovered the power that comes when one seeks to use God’s holy weapons. Paul is not willing to allow pride to get in his way. He is confident in the divine power of God. He knows that God’s power is the only way to deal with the weapons of the flesh. Thanks be unto God that we have the power of God to pull down powerful strongholds. No weapons that form against us shall prosper. God has the power that we can draw on. Regardless of the stronghold, we can live a victorious life in Christ. Never fight the enemy with his weapons, for you will always lose. Put on the whole armor of God and you will always win.
