The Ministry of Reconciliation

A few years ago, we had a service of reconciliation. It provided the people of God an opportunity to reconcile, or settle a difference with someone where the relationship may have been severed. Some of us harbor ill will and cannot reconcile with others. It is possible that some of us began this year carrying angry thoughts against others from previous years. Unless people really want to reconcile, it will never happen. God made reconciliation possible in that He reconciled Himself to us, so why is it so difficult for us to reconcile with one another? Perhaps the best way to approach reconciliation is to see what God has done to reconcile with us. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, we find these words:

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”

This verse tells us how reconciliation has been made possible. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, never yielded to temptation, so He knew no sin. Paul emphasizes the sinlessness of Jesus Christ. He was without sin yet took on the burden of our transgressions. Therefore, we must reconcile not only with Him, but also with our brothers and sisters. Let us not let this day go by without reconciling with our brother or sister. God will get the glory and we will be blessed.
