THE MIND OF CHRIST

The United Negro College Fund’s message is clear, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” I might add that a life is a terrible thing to waste, for the mind and the life of an individual go together. So one thinketh, so he is (Proverbs 23:7). We have to think honorable thoughts. Our minds must be clear and holy. We cannot pollute our minds by absorbing the world’s standards. God has a standard for us and our mind should be in-sync with His standards. There are things that believers should and should not do or say. Not only do we damage our minds and our lives, but we damage the minds and lives of others. We are called to have the mind of Christ. In Philippians 2:5 we find these words:

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”

Paul speaks of Christ’s humility. In verse 4, Paul speaks of considering the interest of others and to do it with humility. His concern was about the welfare of his fellow believers. Paul recognizes the problem they will face and wants them to still emulate the attitude of Christ. He realizes that when he had his own conversion experience he was no longer his own person. Consequently, Paul wants to honor the Lord by living for Him. Prayerfully, we will each strive to have the mind of Christ, and we will offer Him our hearts, souls and minds.
