THE LORD IS OUR PRESENT HELP
Life has a way of draining us dry and causing us to be discouraged. If you have never been discouraged, just keep on living and you will find yourself in a state of discouragement. That is why it is important to encourage yourself in the Lord. Thanks be unto God for those encouragers who come to our aid in times of need with a word of encouragement. When we feel discouraged, and we will at times, we need to remember that God is there for us. When all hope looks lost and we cannot seem to find our way out of trouble, just look to God who will surely come to our rescue. We just need to trust Him. Today’s devotion is found in Psalm 42:5
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior …”
In this passage, the psalmist indicates that during his difficult time he will put his hope and trust in the Lord. He feels alone and yet, he questions himself as to why he feels this way. There is something deep in his soul that cannot be filled by anything other than God. His soul thirsts for the living God. His tears flow like rivers of water night and day. The psalmist remembers the mercy and blessings of God. He writes that he will praise God for the help he has been given. He has talked to himself and encourages himself to respond to the hope and certainty of God. The psalmist makes a vow to God, even in the midst of his pain. He knows that all his help comes from the Lord. Read this psalm, when you feel discouraged and remember the psalmist words knowing that all your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
