There are times in our lives when we feel the Lord is far from us. Oh, I know there are those who may never acknowledge this, but when trials come, and there seems to be no relief in sight, we wonder where God is. We say to ourselves “Has God forgotten us?” We even go to the extent of believing that whatever we are going through, God is punishing us.  This is far from the truth. No matter what we are dealing with, heartache, disappointment, sickness, or death. God is right there. He promised never to leave us alone. Acts 17:27 is our text today.

“His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.”

In this passage, we are called to seek the Lord and find Him. Although people may feel a great distance from Him, Paul is confident that the Lord is not far from anyone. Paul does not want them to rely upon their fleshly nature, but on their spiritual nature of a divine God. Paul is concerned about the people he loves, even though he is not present with them, He knows that God is present with them and that He is for them. They are never to feel abandoned or alone for God is by their side. Paul knows from His life that God’s presence is always there. Today, may we know that God’s presence is with us always. When those times come and we feel abandoned, may we cling to the promise that our God is always with us. It is a blessed assurance to know that our God is always near to bless us with His strong hand of mercy.
