THE HEART OF THE GOSPEL
The heart of the Gospel is found in that familiar verse John 3:16. It reads in this manner:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth inHim should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This one verse sums up the Gospel. If you have been reading these devotions regularly, you will notice that normally I include the scripture lesson somewhere in the middle. But, since this scripture today is the heart of the Gospel, I have put it in first place where it belongs. It is essential for every believer to wrap his or her heart around these words. We were not saved by works, but rather by the gift of God. God gave His only Son that we might have life and life eternal. It also talks about whoever believes in Him, which indicates clearly that He can save anybody and everybody who puts their trust in Him. This one verse should be underlined. In fact, I would even suggest you would hide it in your heart. It is the foundation of our faith. God loved the world so much that He offered His Son not to condemn the world but that through Him, the world might be saved. He who knew no sin took our sins to the cross that we might not perish but have the gift of eternal life. Here we see grace and mercy unfolding at Calvary. Love is at the heart of the Gospel. The promise of eternal life means life is not over for the believer. Each of us has been given the blessed assurance of life after death. Even when we lose a love one, we do not mourn as those who have no hope because of John 3:16. May you be strengthened today with the wonderful gift wrapped up in John 3:16. This is all who confess and allow Him to come into our hearts. Praise God today for life and life eternal.
