THE GOOD LIFE

I have heard many people; when you ask them how they are doing, they say, “I’m living the good life.” I often wonder what they really mean about the good life. How does one describe the good life? What is your definition of the good life? Is it eat, drink and be merry? Is it having a good time? What describes your good life? When I think of the good life, I think of the blessings that God gives. My mind goes back to the grace and mercy God extends to us every day. The joy He gives knowing that this joy is our strength. I would argue strongly that there is no good life outside of God! Outside of God, all the good we receive is temporary. However, with God, there is permanence. Ephesians 2:10 is our scriptural text for today’s devotion.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

In this moving passage, the writer speaks of being made alive with Christ. God saved us by His grace when we believed in Him; this grace is a gift from God. Salvation is not the reward of the good things we have done; it is a gift from God. It is a gift that allows us to do good things in His name and to live a full and complete life that does not end but is eternal. God’s love implanted in our lives allows us to live fully and freely. As His masterpieces, we can enjoy life’s blessings that flow from God’s hand.
