THE FERVENT PRAYER
In October 2013, we began a new format for our Early Morning Worship Service. What began as a prayer line has evolved into a one-hour worship service, in which we have been blessed with the fervent prayers of God’s people. We have watched in amazement as prayers are offered and healing takes place; prayers are offered and souls are saved; prayers are offered and reconciliation takes place; prayers are offered and sins are forgiven. We thank God for the power of prayer and we believe that according to the Word of God the fervent prayer of the righteous will save. In James 5:16 we read:
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
Here in this epistle the writer clearly indicates the power of prayer. This verse is preceded by verse 15 where it simply says, the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord will raise him up and if you have committed sins they shall be forgiven. James speaks from his heart about the effects of prayer. He deals with sickness, sin, and the need to confess our faults to one another. He calls on the people of God to engage in this gift of prayer for it has healing. He talks about total consecration and the anointing of oil. When you get a chance read this chapter of James. We are called upon as God’s people to pray in season and out of season. Prayerfully you have discovered the power of prayer and you are able to pray in the name of Jesus for those who are sick, shut-in, and bereaved. Thanks be unto God we have discovered the power of prayer, it does make a difference.
