THE COST OF FOLLOWING JESUS

I have shared with the readers the awesome cost of following Jesus. I have watched some start their journey of following Him, but the burden of life’s pressures caused them to go in another direction. I am reminded of the scripture in Luke 14:28 that says: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? (KJV)” To follow Jesus requires self-sacrifice, obedience and discipline. Let me say, “it is well worth it.” We just have to know the cost and be willing to pay the price. In Luke 9:57, we find these words:

“As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’”

Jesus was not moved by those who spoke glowing words, because He knew they did not fully understand what they were saying. When you get a chance, read this chapter, then ask yourself if you are willing to pay the cost of following Jesus. There is a difference between knowing Him as Savior and knowing Him as Lord. It is easy for us to identify with Him as being our Savior from the spiritual aspect, but it is another thing to acknowledge Him as Lord. Lord means He rules over our lives, and we are willing to lay down all for Him. We may not be at the point where we are ready to say He is Lord of our lives, but if we continue to walk with Him, honor Him, and follow Him, we will mature to that point. I pray that we will one day all be able to say, “I have counted the cost, and I am determined to follow Jesus all the way.”
