The Blood of Jesus
We thank God today for the blood of Jesus, for without the shedding of His blood, we would still be slaves to our sin. As you read this devotion, take the time to thank God for the blood. His blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Our good works or our honorable deeds do not save us, but it is the blood of Jesus that sets us free. Let us never forget the precious blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on Calvary for our sins. When we gather at the communion table, we come to partake of His shed blood, but that should not be the only time we remember to give thanks for the blood. In Matthew 26:28, we find these words:
“’for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’”
Matthew records the upper room experience where Jesus blessed and broke the bread, gave it to the disciples, and told them to eat it. The Word goes on to say, in verse 27, that He took a cup and
when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and told them to drink it. The cup represents a new covenant sealed by the blood of Jesus poured out for each of us. Sometimes, we sing a song called “At the Table.” Some of the words are, “Come on in, where the table is spread, and the feast of the Lord is going on. All are invited; whosoever will, let them come. God is the only one who can offer this perfect sacrifice. All we have to do is accept it. May we all be strengthened today by the knowledge that the blood has cleansed us from all unrighteousness.
