THE BEAUTY OF A QUIET SPIRIT

There is so much beauty when you are in the presence of a quiet spirit. The radiance of the spirit brings music to the soul. It is refreshing, because it is hard to find quietness when we do so much talking. My grandmother would say that at times, we talk just to hear ourselves. I would argue that some of us fear silence. Nevertheless, silence does speak. Have you ever been in the presence of someone who has a contagious spirit? There is something about the quietness, calmness, gentleness and meekness of a quiet spirit.  I Peter 3:4 speaks of this and reads:

“You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

This passage reveals the blessing of a quiet spirit. It is of great value to God; like a jewel. A genuine quiet spirit is defined as “one that neither worries others nor allows itself to be worried.” It is a priceless gift. It is a spirit that has been tempered by God.  Peter highlights the Christian woman who has a spirit of love and humility. When she speaks, her words are wise. The next time you meet someone with a quiet spirit, thank God for them! Glean from the love of God in their heart. Spend time with them so that your life might be enriched. I am grateful to know several of God’s faithful servants who have a quiet spirit. I long to be in their company.
