STRUGGLING WITH SIN
I received a letter from a young lady a few years ago that touched my heart. She indicated how she had been blessed by attending Bible study. She expressed that she was struggling with some areas of sin in her life, and she was trying to find a way to overcome those battles. I thanked God for her faith and her willingness to acknowledge her inner conflicts. Many of us struggle with sin; however, unlike this young lady, we tend to hide them. All of us have pressures in our lives that constantly cause us to falter. In Romans 7:15, we find these words:
“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.”
Paul indicates that his flesh sometimes overwhelms him. He makes it clear that he is not altogether free from sin, and he struggles constantly with the very things he has tried not to do. He thanks God for the power over the sin that he struggles with. It is my prayer today that we will also recognize that no matter how difficult our struggle with sin may be, God has given us the power to overcome it. Like Paul, we cannot deny our sin, but we must be willing to acknowledge it and ask God to strengthen us to overcome it. I conclude this devotion with my prayer, that God will help us all as we struggle with sin.
