We don’t often express that we grow weary at times, but the truth of the matter is that life will cause us to become tired and weak. Maybe one of the reasons we don’t talk about it is because we don’t want to give the impression to others that we have little faith. We would much rather give the impression that we are strong. Maybe that is why we have so many unrealistic clichés. We often hear the expression “too blessed to be stressed” as if to say that we are immune from stress and strain. But there are times when we should be honest and say that life is pushing and pulling us, and we do feel weary. Whenever we feel that way we need to turn to the Word of God. In Isaiah 40:29, we find these words:

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

The writer brings into sharp focus the weakness of Israel and the strength of God. The people have grown weary, but the prophet Isaiah reminds them the Lord gives power to those who are weak. He tells them the Lord will increase their strength, and he makes it clear in verse 31 that those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. We just have to wait on Him, lean on Him, and acknowledge when we are weak. Praise God today, that we can rely on Him to fortify us when we become weary and worn.
