STAY AWAKE
It is so important that we stay awake. That is to say that we are always open to the power and presence of God. We are not asleep on the job. We are not daydreaming or sleeping our life away. However, we are not only awake, but we are alert and know our surroundings. We are well aware of Satan and all of his power. We are at our post ready for God to use us. We never know when God will speak to us. Consequently, we must always be eager and ready to receive His word. We do not want to be caught giving into temptation because we are asleep. Our scripture reference is found in Matthew 26:41.
“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
In Gethsemane, the Master Teacher speaks to Peter and the two sons of Zebedee to keep watch and pray. Jesus prays to the Father that if it is possible, to “take this cup away.” His prayer does not end before He prays that the Father’s will be done through Him. When He returned He found His disciples asleep. He said that they could not even watch for an hour. He knew that temptation was near, and their spirit was willing, but their body was weak. The Master spoke with a thundering voice, “Couldn’t you watch for just one hour?” Today’s message asks, “Can’t you stay awake so that you might not yield to the flesh, but be empowered by the Spirit?” May the grace of God awaken you each and every day and may you always be ready to do the Lord’s work and will.
