I remember in Sunday School when I asked the teacher what is a Christian. She answered, “Christ-like.” Those words have stayed in my heart since that day. I believe with all my heart that when one says they are a Christian, it is an indication that he or she is Christ-like in their love. We know how much Christ loves us. He gave His life because of His great and generous love for all of us. Yes, we as sinners know that Christ love us so much that he shed His precious blood that we might be saved. The question confronting us today is, Do you have the love of Christ in your heart and is your love like His. Only you can answer that question for yourself. The scripture reference for this devotion is I Corinthians 14:1.

“Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives – especially the ability to prophesy.”

In this moving passage of scripture, Paul writes of tongues and prophecy. Before He speaks about the ability to prophesy, he clearly states that love should be one’s highest goal. He writes that although one may speak in tongues, if love is not in your heart it is meaningless. He also indicates that speaking in tongues and prophecy are not gifted to everyone. However, everyone should have the love of Christ. Make sure your love is higher than any other gift or talent that you possess. In addition, know that it is the love of Christ that allows you to love others the way He loves you.
