SOW GENEROUSLY
God has blessed us in a bountiful way, and our response should be to give back to others. Being generous comes from God’s Word. I am always reminded of my son repeating these words; “To whom much is given, much is required” (Luke 12:48). I am grateful that he learned this at an early age, and that he continues to put this into practice. The Bible, God’s Holy Word, speaks of the need to sow generously. In 2 Corinthians 9:6 we find these words:
“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.”
Paul is concerned about the spiritual life of the people at Corinth. It appears they had not learned to give to help others. Paul points out that God will richly bless those who give generously. Comparatively, those who give sparingly will also reap sparingly. In other words, they will reap a limited blessing. Prayerfully, we are all striving to sow generously, because we know that the Word says in 2 Corinthians 9:7 that “God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
