SET APART BY GOD
This devotion is in keeping with yesterday’s devotion Victory Through God’s Grace. Today we focus upon blessings and being set apart by God. When God’s grace saves us, we are set aside to do His work and will. We have been set aside to live holy and righteous lives that are pleasing unto God. God has shown mercy unto us and given us a new lease on life. We are anointed and appointed by God for such a time as this. Prayerfully, you know with assurance that God has chosen you, called you, and equipped you. The scripture reference for today’s devotion is I Corinthians 6:11.
“Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
In this passage, Paul reminds his fellow believers of their past lives. They were, indeed, people who did not always live up to the standards of God. They committed sin, and their lives were unholy. However, in this sixth chapter, Paul tells them that they have been cleansed, and made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus. The Lord blessed and saved them, and they were now set apart. No longer were they to live in the past, but to live in the present by the power and grace of God. When you get a chance, read this entire chapter and imagine yourself in this passage of scripture. When the truth is told, all of us have a “before Christ” season when we did unholy things. After God set us apart, our lives were changed dramatically. Let me put a disclaimer here: we are not perfect and have a long way to go. Since God has set us apart, we are to aim to live our lives holy unto Him.
