God has given freedom to us. We can choose to do His will or we can choose to ignore Him. The choices we make reveal where our allegiance lies. As believers, we must always strive for excellence. We need to ensure that our decisions align with the glory of God. How we use our freedom speaks volumes about our lives. Today’s devotion centers on the need to strive for excellence as we read in I Corinthians 6:12:

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”

Paul, the humble servant of the Lord, speaks of the nature of Christian freedom. Believers cannot do as they please. Paul says that all things are lawful. He makes clear that there are limitations on one’s Christian freedom. He realizes that sin can destroy the believer’s life. He says that not all things are helpful, knowing that some things that appeal to the flesh may not be good. Our bodies should be living temples unto God, holy and acceptable unto Him. Paul indicates that the body is not meant for immorality. We cannot abuse our bodies, for they are the temple of God. When you can, read all of chapter six. Then, strive for excellence in both your mind and body.
