SEEK JUSTICE
As we observe the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we thank God for his love and commitment to bring justice to his people. Unfortunately, we have not received all justice needed. There is still racism, classism, and sexism in our country as well as countless people living in poverty. We cannot be silent while God’s people are suffering. We have to seek justice and work towards bringing equality to all people. There is a mandate from the Lord and the scripture lesson calls upon the people of God to seek justice. We read these words in Isaiah 1:17:
“Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.”
In moving passage of scripture, Isaiah calls upon the people to have a heart for justice. He is concerned about those in need, those who are oppressed: orphans and widows. He wants the people to honor them by doing good. He wants the people to honor God, which is not merely in one’s words but in one’s willingness to advocate for someone else. While seeking justice, remember God has a heart for all His people. Consequently, as a believer, your heart should be with all people as well.
