REST IN THE ARMS OF THE LORD
Thanks be unto God that we can find rest in the arms of the Lord! His arms are stretched out wide with compassion, and we are surrounded by His love. We need that rest because life’s problems and burdens can drain us dry, and we become weary and worn. The rest we receive from the Lord cannot be compared to anything else. If we are honest, there have been times when we sought rest outside the arms of the Lord, but that rest was only temporary. We escape from our troubles for a few days, only to find that the burden was still there. I have always been renewed and strengthened when I have sought rest in the arms of the Lord. In Isaiah 49:16, we find these words:
“See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem’s walls in ruins.”
Isaiah, a faithful servant of the Lord, is speaking on behalf of the Lord. He said, “The Lord has honored me, and my God has given me strength.” The Lord speaks to His people and reminds them that they can find rest in His arms. Isaiah tells them that the Lord always had them on His mind, and He will care for them like a father cares for his children. When you get a chance, read this entire chapter. See how the Lord provided for His people. In the same way, He provides for us. We can find the rest we need, when we need it, in the loving arms of the Lord.
