It is so important that we offer God the very best we have. He wants us to give Him our hearts, our souls, and our minds. There must always be true confession and a willingness to seek His forgiveness. Repentance is necessary if we truly want to render God our very best. Sometimes we try to offer the Lord everything except our hearts. It is true that we should give Him our tithes, our offerings, our time, and our talents; but we should also have a willingness to surrender our entire heart to Him. In Joel 2:13, we find these words:

“Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”

Joel calls on the people to repent; not simply to render their garments, which is a sign of grief. He emphasizes God’s requirement of sinners which is a broken and contrite heart. He recognizes that the heart is not only the seat of affection, but also of the will. It is my prayer today that we have rendered our hearts to God, that our hearts are open to God, and He is at the very center and core of our hearts.
