Rejoicing is crucial to our relationship with God. To rejoice always is to say that we rejoice when things are well and when they are not so well. Rejoice in the good times and the difficult times. Give thanks for all things knowing that all things work together for good to them who love the Lord. It takes a deep and abiding faith in the Lord to rejoice always. It is easy to rejoice when you have money in the bank, your health is good, and all around you, there are bountiful blessings. It is harder to rejoice when things are bleak, money is hard to come by and your health is failing. Philippians 4:4 reveals this:

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!”

Paul, the humble servant of the Lord, emphasizes that joy should be in all circumstances and all trials should be in the heart of every believer. He reminds himself of his new life in the Lord. Paul knew how to be content in any situation. Consequently, he was always able to be joyful. Paul knew beyond the shadow of a doubt about God’s grace and mercy. Therefore, he writes about the need to be joyful and prayerful. He knew the importance of letting our requests be made known to God and that God will hear and answer our prayers. He was content to trust God and to remain joyful in any circumstance he found himself in. I pray that you have a grateful heart and that you are always joyful.
