I want the Lord to rain down on us. Rain down with His righteousness: not just a sprinkle, but a drenching from on high. We need God’s righteousness to permeate our lives. Our nation is in need of a complete soaking, for we have turned away from God and we need His mercy. We need His blessings and His abundant love. Our hearts have become hardened. We see the signs of decay all around us. This is not the first time, for as we read the Word of God today, we see a continuous need for righteousness to rain. In Hosea 10:12, we find these words:
“I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a
crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’”
The prophet is advising the people to turn around before it is too late. It is a plea of repentance in order for them to reap the fruit of steadfast love. God will give us another chance and grant us mercy if we seek Him. He invited the people of Israel to come and find waters of righteousness flowing with forgiveness. God was so merciful that He gave them the opportunity to repent and to turn from their wicked ways. God extends that same invitation to us today. He promises us His salvation if we only turn to Him and seek His forgiveness. Please Lord, let it rain! We need your rain!
