Quenching The Spirit
I have seen some try to quench the Spirit of God when the Spirit is high. There are some who are not able to praise God fully and freely, and therefore they do not understand when others do. We are called to not quench the Spirit, but to let it flow. Something contagious happens as it moves from heart-to-heart and breast-to-breast. The Spirit of God is rich and fulfilling. I love being where the Spirit of God is. When one or two are touching and agreeing, the Lord is in the midst (Matthew 18:20). In 1 Thessalonians 5:19 we find these words:
“Quench not the Spirit.”
This verse is short, yet powerful. Paul tells the people in verses 20-22 “Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” This is relevant and connected to the Spirit of God. Whatever we do should be done to the glory of God, and we should never, ever quench the spirit. Let the Spirit reign so that God will be glorified, and His people will be edified.
