As I write this devotion, I think of the song “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.” How true those words are! I hope you are able to say those words today. I can say these words without hesitation. I have discovered that the only hope we have is Christ Jesus. He is the hope in our world. I know I am not alone for many have found Him to be their hope, joy, strength. We are living in a time when we see a world that is so full of gloom and doom. Yet, for the believer, our hope is in God that no matter what the world looks like, or what our problems look like, we have hope knowing that God is still in control. The Biblical reference is Psalm 42:5 and reads:

“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God.”

Here, the psalmist speaks from the depths of his soul. The psalmist is surrounded by trials and troubles. He writes that his soul thirsts for God. His tears have been his food day and night. Yet, in his despair, he knows that God is there for him. This gives strength and relief to him. He moves from chaos to praise from sorrow to joy. He knows there is no reason for him to be cast down. Although his enemies torment him, he trusts God! His hope allows him to continue his journey, even though he feels alone at times. He is sure that God is with Him. The psalmist will continually pray unto the Lord. His testimony could well be our testimony. His story could well be our story. May his story strengthen you today and may you continually put your hope in God, regardless of what comes your way. Know that God is on your side.
