PUT NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH

As believers, we must always be mindful that our flesh is weak. No matter how strong our faith may be, it is possible for us to succumb to the flesh. We may find ourselves doing things that are out of the will of God. The very things we said we would not do, the flesh will rise up and cause us to do it. We should place no confidence in the flesh. In Philippians 3:4, we find these words:

“though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more!

Paul looks back on his own life, how he was going in the wrong direction, and the Lord made him over. He had placed his confidence in the flesh which resulted in his disobedience to God. He shares his testimony because he wants to warn others about the dangers of the flesh. He is grateful to God that his life has been changed.  We’re no match for the flesh, but thanks be unto God for grace that allows us to overcome our flesh. As opposed to placing confidence in the flesh, place it in God. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
