PULL DOWN STRONGHOLDS
Several years ago, I preached a sermon titled, “Pulling Down Strongholds.” At the same time, Lee and Gayland Ridley did a series of workshops focused on this topic. In fact, just this summer, they had the opportunity to share once again this critical subject of pulling down strongholds. It is vital that we pull down strongholds that enslave us and keep us in invisible chains. We all have them! Ours may not be the same, but rest assured, we all have strongholds in our lives. It could be lust, greed, addiction, envy, strife: you name it! We all have some stronghold! However, God has given us the ability to pull down those strongholds. II Corinthians 10:4 speaks of this matter.
“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.”
Paul writes clearly that we do not fight with carnal weapons to knock down the strongholds in our lives. Paul is aware that we cannot use human weapons: we must use godly weapons. He says that we can destroy every obstacle in our way that keeps us from knowing God. He is not boasting on his own strength but boasting on the power of God. Paul is saying, in effect, that God gives us the strength to pull down whatever strongholds are in our lives. Therefore, we cannot honestly say that these strongholds are larger than God. We cannot say that we cannot free ourselves from them for God has given us the power to pull each one down. I pray that you are working on your strongholds seeking God’s strength for victory and freedom in your life
